A simple way to get your mind back in the game is to breathe in slow and deep. Hold for a few seconds, then exhale very slowly. Do this at least a few times.
You may use various counting methods. But, I feel like it does not matter what number you count to. The key is the very slow exhale.
The reason is because when you inhale your heart rate increases, when you exhale slowly, your heart rate decreases. Plus, simply focusing on breathing gets your mind off of stress for a moment.

And yes, I would consider this meditation. You are present, mindful, focusing on breathing. But, what’s great is you can do this anywhere and at anytime and no one will notice. You don’t even need to close you eyes or sit.
